🌿 Spring Notes from Tamsin’s Garden Journal 🌿

"It’s more than a definite possibility that Spring has arrived in the Aubourn Hall gardens..."

Our Head Gardener, Tamsin, has been busy capturing the season as it unfolds; the snowdrops have been beautifully delicate, with so many more this year than last - joined by the golden drops of aconites, jewel-like crocuses, and the utterly feminine hellebores, all soaking up the sunshine and looking their absolute best.

Tamsin has been working through her ever-growing "invisible list," with so many jobs now ticked off, from laurel reduction and fruit tree pruning to cutting back the roses and ordering the annual bedding seeds. She’s even been busy dividing and potting up the dahlia tubers. It’s still chilly more than it’s sunny, so a little heater in the greenhouse at bedtime is a must, but the rewards are appearing everywhere. Tamsin loves this time of year, seeing the "bare bones" and the structure of where it all begins is always so interesting, as the gardens are truly different from year to year.

New life is already peeping through; the cherry blossom is arriving and the roses are budding. Tamsin admits she can’t wait for our ‘Strawberry Hill’ shrub to bloom… if only we could bottle that fragrance! 💕 The work never stops, though; next on the list is pruning back the wisteria, the dogwood (when the time is right), and reducing the bamboo... again. Safe to say, it will be a busy March!

There have been some changes to the grounds over the winter, so the landscape might look a little different since your last visit. We would love for you to come and see the progress for yourself.

Why not join us for one of our upcoming Open Garden days, or book a private guided tour to explore the secluded ground at your pace.  We look forward to seeing you soon, happy springtime! 🦋🌱
